Will iOS finally be getting the full Swiftkey keyboard experience?
Apple's WWDC event happened yesterday, where they talk all things software. Whilst I was thoroughly distracted watching the jaw-dropping "The Mountain and The Viper" Game of Thrones episode, this morning was a chance to catch up.
A full round up of everything coming to iOS 8 and OSX 10.10 Yosemite can be found here. The highlight for me came in the section about "Extensibility", the ability for iOS apps to finally start talking to each other properly, and specifically the largely glossed over option for third party keyboards.
Having been a happy Android user for the past 4+ years, the one thing that's always stopped me even considering getting an iPhone was the keyboard. Since it was released in 2007, the keyboard has barely changed. In that time, Android users can significantly improve on the already reasonable stock keyboard with the likes of Swype and Swiftkey.
This looks like we might finally see something as awesome as a full Swiftkey keyboard coming to iOS. I'm due an upgrade in the next month or so - I think I'll hold off until Autumn and see how this pans out.
